Atal Ground Water Scheme 2025
Atal Bhujal Yojana has been started by the central government. Through this scheme, emphasis will be laid on seeking community participation and intervention for sustainable groundwater management in 7 identified water stressed areas of the country. The scheme envisages better source sustainability for Jal Jeevan Mission, positive contribution to the goal of doubling farmers’ income and behavioral change in the community to facilitate water usage. The government will spend Rs 6000 crore for the operation of Atal Bhujal Yojana. Out of which Rs 3000 crore will be received as a loan from the World Bank and the Government of India will contribute Rs 3000 crore. Under this scheme, the amount will be provided as grant-in-aid to the state. Atal Bhujal Yojana will be launched in 8353 water stressed gram panchayats of Haryana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Objective of Atal Bhujal Yojan
The main objective of the scheme is to improve the management of ground water resources in the water stressed areas of the selected states. Ground water level will improve through Atal Bhujal Yojana, which will solve the water problem. This objective will be achieved through convergence of various ongoing or new Central and State schemes by implementing appropriate investment/management work in community leadership. With this scheme, water will be available to every citizen of the country. Due to which the standard of living of the citizens of the country will improve. Apart from this, this scheme will also prove effective in making the citizens of the country empowered and self-reliant.
Atal Ground Water Scheme Scheme Components
- Institutionalization and Capacity Building Component: – Under this component all the participating states will be enabled to manage thie groundwater using strong databases, scientific approach and community participation. An amount of Rs 1400 crore will be spent by the government for this component.
- Incentive Component: Under this component, emphasis will be laid on community participation, demand management and convergence between various ongoing schemes of the central and state governments to increase the groundwater level. An amount of ₹4600 will be spent by the government to operate this component.
